Power factor is a measure of how effectively electrical power is being used. It’s the ratio of real power (P) to apparent power (S) in a circuit.

Real Power (P):

Real power, measured in watts (W), is the actual power consumed by the circuit to perform useful work. It’s calculated using the formula:

P = V × I × cos(θ)

Apparent Power (S):

Apparent power, measured in volt-amperes (VA), is the product of the total voltage and current in the circuit. It’s calculated using the formula:

S = V × I

Power Factor (PF):

The power factor is calculated using the formula:

PF = \(\frac{P}{S}\)
